Privacy Policy

Kaleran ("we," "us," or "the app") is a tool that helps you build a calmer relationship with your phone. We care about your privacy and have built Kaleran to collect as little of your data as possible. This policy explains what we do and don't collect, and what happens to the limited information the app uses.

The short version

• Kaleran does not require an account. There is no sign-up, no login, and no password.
• Almost everything you do in Kaleran is stored only on your device. We cannot see it.
• The one exception is the AI Coach feature. When you choose to send a message to the Coach, that message and a small amount of context are sent to our server and to our AI provider so the Coach can reply. Details are below.
• We do not sell your data. We do not show ads. We do not use third-party advertising or analytics trackers.

Information stored on your device

When you use Kaleran, the app stores the following information locally on your device, using Apple's standard on-device storage. This information stays on your device and is not transmitted to us:

• Your first name, if you choose to enter it during onboarding.
• Your stated goal (for example, "less doomscrolling").
• Your activity within the app, such as completed pauses, breathing sessions, check-ins, streak counts, and estimated reclaimed time.
• Your app settings and preferences, including your chosen Coach intensity.

Because this information is stored only on your device, it is removed if you delete the app. We have no way to access or recover it.

The AI Coach feature

Kaleran includes an optional AI Coach you can chat with. This is the only part of Kaleran that sends information off your device.

When you send a message to the Coach:

• Your message text is sent to our server (a secure relay) and then to our AI provider, Anthropic, which generates the Coach's reply.
• To make replies more relevant, a small amount of context may be sent along with your message: your first name (if provided), your stated goal (if provided), and a brief note about your current streak.
• The reply is sent back to your device and shown to you.

We use a relay server so that our connection credentials are never stored in the app on your device. We do not use your Coach conversations to build advertising profiles, and we do not sell them.

Anthropic processes Coach messages in order to generate replies. Anthropic's handling of API data is governed by its own commercial terms and privacy practices. We encourage you not to share sensitive personal information (such as financial, health, or identity details) with the Coach.

What we do not collect

• We do not collect your real-time location.
• We do not access your contacts, photos, microphone, or camera.
• We do not use third-party advertising networks or sell data to data brokers.
• We do not require or collect payment card numbers within the app; any subscription billing is handled by Apple through the App Store, and Apple does not share your full payment details with us.

Children's privacy

Kaleran is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information through the Coach feature, please contact us so we can address it.

Data retention and deletion

Information stored on your device remains until you delete it or delete the app. To remove all locally stored Kaleran data, delete the app from your device.

For Coach messages processed by our relay and our AI provider, we do not maintain a long-term personal profile of your conversations for marketing. Our AI provider may retain API data for a limited period in line with its own policies.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Kaleran adds features. When the app begins blocking or monitoring app usage through Apple's Screen Time / Family Controls technology in a future version, this policy will be updated to describe how that on-device data is handled. We will revise the "Last updated" date when we make changes.
